North Carolina bans aerial mapping without a surveying license

Correct. He knew what he was doing was wrong, but he didn’t take the initiative you did and ask. Probably because he read so much nonsense as shows up on the internet not to mention others doing the same. Didn’t bother to do his due diligence and now is paying a Licensed Attorney to fight his...

How can I get photo center GPS coordinates?

Can you not just drop a pin to get your coordinates?

North Carolina bans aerial mapping without a surveying license

Not a constitutional issue if you’re surveying without a license. You can’t practice medicine without a license, you can’t practice law without a license, you can’t practice engineering without a license…….theres a lot of them. They’re all regulated to protect the public as they all provide a...

North Carolina bans aerial mapping without a surveying license

https://www.wral.com/amp/21441836/ I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see SC follow NC’s lead on this.

    Surveyed GCP data

I just didn’t want the OP to read it as “take location data from the GIS and roll on” so I added what I did. As a PLS I get a bit cringy with some of the way folks describe, advertise and promote their business in relation to location services, especially use of the word “surveying” as that’s...

    Surveyed GCP data

GSD and location are not the same thing. GSD is Ground Sampling Distance and measures from the center of one pixel to the center of an adjacent pixel. Fancy word for resolution. Grabbing a lat/lon location off an aerial within someone else’s GIS puts you at the mercy of their projection work.

Drones in Fort Nelson, B.C. wildfire zone endanger helicopters...

100% in agreement. I can’t speak for Canada, but on a Wildfire in the US the Forest Service grounds all flights when a non USFS/BLM/etc drone is detected. I would not want to be the pilot identified as being responsible for the grounding of all flights during a wildfire.

    Hello from SC

Good question. I think a contractor could use a DJI drone, but the FS themselves can not purchase and use one. I still survey privately for select instances and can use the drone I purchase for anything that is allowed for the general public as it relates to the FS, but not use it for FS...

    Hello from SC

They Definitely will not let me fly the 3T for them. We have 3 Anafi thermals, but they are shared across the region. I’m getting the 3T for myself. The drone presence is going to be expanding quickly across the region though and I just want to get caught up and then stay on pace or ahead of it.

    Hello from SC

Hey fellas, glad to sign up. I’m a Professional Land Surveyor and got my part 107 a couple weeks ago. I had my own Surveying company for many years and have worked for the USFS the last 4 years. I got my Pt 107 for that job, but the availability of drones is poor and we have to fly a set number...
